Common questions
Is a US gallon the same as an imperial gallon?
No. A US gallon is 3.785 litres; an imperial gallon is exactly 4.54609 litres, about 20% larger. Both are listed separately here so neither is assumed.
How many fluid ounces are in a pint?
A US pint is 16 US fluid ounces; an imperial pint is 20 imperial fluid ounces. The two pints differ by roughly a fifth, so the figures do not interchange.
How many millilitres are in a cup?
A US cup is 236.59 ml. Recipes written elsewhere often mean a 250 ml metric cup instead, so it is worth checking which one a recipe assumes before scaling it.
