Common questions

• What is lorem ipsum?

  Scrambled Latin, taken from a first-century BC text by Cicero, used as placeholder copy since the 1500s. It reads as text without being readable, so it shows how a layout looks without anyone stopping to read it.

• Why not just type “text text text”?

  Repeated words give an unrealistic rhythm: the word lengths and line breaks are wrong, so the block looks nothing like real copy. Lorem ipsum has roughly the word-length distribution of English prose.

• Is the text the same every time?

  No. Each press of Generate produces a different passage. The first one you see on loading the page is fixed, so the text is there before any script runs.

• Why is the character count a little under what I asked for?

  Words are never cut in half, so the number you set is a ceiling rather than an exact target. Most requests land exactly on it; the rest stop one to three characters short, because no whole word fitted in what was left. The count under the box is always the real length.
